Walking With The Wounded is a military charity which raises funds to retrain and re-skill wounded service men and women, and supports them to find new careers outside the military.  In 2015 members of the charity undertook a walk around Britain, and stopped overnight at Warminster School.  On the back of this, sixth former Charlotte Brumby decided to organise a Gala Dinner and charity auction.

This took place on Friday 16th September at Warminster School, and I was delighted to be the Master of Ceremonies.  My main job for the evening was to keep everything on time, and make announcements and introductions.  This included, thanks for the musical acts, calls for dinner, and introducing Charlotte as the organiser, and co-founder Ed Parker who both made speeches. I was also responsible for announcing the raffle, and ensuring all the tickets don't fall out of the tombola is always a challenge!!.

I greeted over 100 guests all dressed in their finest evening wear, and ready for a great night, starting with a Champagne reception, sponsored by David Wiltshire Photography. There was music from the house Jazz band of Warminster School, and a delightful performance by the Warminster Military Wives Choir, who did very well to extend their songs after the guest of honour was delayed in traffic.

The whole purpose of the night was to raise money for the charity, and the auction was littered with big prizes, from training sessions with Olympic Champions, sporting and military memorabilia, to dinner packages, jewellery and original art. As this was a silent auction, my main job was to plug the various lots on offer, and try to boost the final total, which we did to around £3,000 on the night.

This was a pleasure to be involved with and a fantastic night, which finished with a disco from Raw Entertainment.
